Locks and permissions

The quiz never appears

Two permissions have to be granted for a lock to show: Usage Access (so QuizLock can see how long an app was used) and display over other apps (so it can draw the quiz). The dashboard shows a warning card whenever one of them is missing.

On Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO phones there is a third, separate one that Android's own settings never mention: Other permissions → Display pop-up windows while running in background. Without it the system silently drops the lock screen, and nothing in the app can detect it in advance. QuizLock watches for the failure and then shows you a card that links straight to the right settings page.

The lock is late, or misses an app

Usage is sampled periodically rather than continuously — that is what keeps the battery cost invisible — so a lock can arrive a few seconds after the limit is passed. If it never arrives, check that the app is in your monitored list and that battery optimisation is not killing the protection service (Settings → Battery → let QuizLock run in the background).

Kids mode

What it changes

Kids mode serves only easy questions from gentle categories (maths, science, geography, vocabulary), removes every ad — banner and rewarded alike — and puts the Settings tab behind your PIN.

I forgot the PIN

There is no recovery, on purpose: a reset anyone could trigger would not be a parental control. Reinstalling the app clears the PIN along with everything else stored on the device, so restore a backup first if you have one.

Settings opened without asking for the PIN

Fixed in version 1.0.16. Older builds kept the tab unlocked for the rest of the app session after one correct PIN. Update from Play and the gate re-locks every time you leave the tab or the app goes to the background.

Premium and promo codes

What Premium includes

No ads anywhere, the exam packs (driving licence and YDS), Google Drive backup, and skipping a lock without watching anything. Monthly or yearly, billed by Google Play.

Redeeming a promo code

Open Premium in the app and tap "Have a promo code?". Type the code and the Play Store opens with it filled in. Confirm there; Premium switches itself on as soon as Play grants it — you do not need to restart the app, though bringing it back to the foreground is what triggers the check.

I paid but Premium is off

Open Premium and tap Restore purchases. QuizLock asks Play directly for your active subscriptions, so this fixes a failed sync without any support ticket. If it does not, make sure the device is signed in to the Google account that made the purchase.

Cancelling

Subscriptions are managed by Google, not by us: Play Store → your profile → Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the renewal; Premium stays active until the period you already paid for ends.

Data and backups

Moving to a new phone

Everything lives on the device, so a new phone starts fresh unless you bring a backup. Settings → Backup exports a file you can move yourself; Premium adds automatic backup to your own Google Drive. Restore on the new phone before you start using it, since restoring replaces what is there.

Deleting everything

Uninstalling removes all local data. A Drive backup has to be deleted separately — from Settings inside the app, or from your Google account. The privacy policy covers analytics and advertising identifiers.

Reporting a bad question

Every question has a report action on the result screen. Reported questions stop being served to you immediately and reach us with the question id, so a wrong answer or a bad translation can be fixed at the source. With 212,000+ questions across ten languages, this is genuinely the fastest way they get found.
